Ray FungPartner, Chief Investment Officer
Ray is the founding partner of JIDA Capital. He is member of CGN Capital Partners Infrastructure Fund III investment committee and asset management committee and is responsible for managing the investment process of CGN Capital Partner III, and jointly responsible for originating investment opportunities for CGN Capital Partner Infrastructure Fund III and driving the business performance of CGN Capital Partners Infrastructure Fund III investments. He is also responsible for JIDA Capital’s business advisory and strategic advisory businesses.
Ray is currently on secondment to CGN Private Equity as Chief Executive Officer.
Ray has gained his investment experience from being involved in financial advisory mandates, principal investments in the infrastructure sector and operational management of infrastructure projects. Specifically, Ray has led investments in wind, solar, coal-fired, gas-fired power generation, energy transmission and distribution, coal bed methane gas field exploration and development, and transportation infrastructure in the PRC, ASEAN, Australia and Europe.
Prior to JIDA Capital, Ray was the Head of Infrastructure Investments at Ping An in Shenzhen. He was responsible for Ping An’s infrastructure investment activities, including serving on the Board of a number of Ping An’s private investments. Prior to Ping An, he was Head of Infrastructure – Asia of Babcock & Brown, a member of Babcock & Brown’s Global Infrastructure Executive Committee, Asian Infrastructure Fund’s investment committee, and he was a director on the boards of public company Sydney Gas Limited in Australia and private companies in China, HKSAR, Thailand, Singapore and Australia. Ray was responsible for the establishment, capital raising and management of the A$400 million listed Prime Infrastructure Fund in 2001-2002, the A$174 million Global Wind Partners in 2003-2006, the A$900 million Babcock & Brown Power Fund in 2006, the USD$460 million Babcock & Brown Asia Infrastructure Fund in 2007-2009, and the RMB 3.69 billion CGN Capital Partners Infrastructure Fund III in 2012 till to date.
Ray holds a Bachelor of Economics, a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment, and is a CFA charter-holder.
Elton joined JIDA Capital in 2018. He is responsible for managing the ex-China investment partner relationships, investment banking and commercial banking relationships for JIDA Capital and CGN Capital Partners Infrastructure Fund III. Elton also assists in managing the business operations of JIDA Capital, and is jointly responsible for JIDA Capital’s business advisory and strategic advisory businesses.
Elton has 20 years of experience working in finance and related fields, focusing on private equity, real estate and infrastructure investments, investment banking, commercial banking, private wealth management, and public fund management in multiple Asia-Pacific jurisdictions including Greater China, with areas of expertise spanning across multiple risk management areas, internal operational control and strategic infrastructure build-up.
Prior to joining JIDA Capital, Elton was a Managing Director and the Chief Operating Officer of Morgan Stanley China based in Beijing. He oversaw the front-to-back operations of its business across all platforms, including risk management across the finance, tax, legal, compliance, credit, market and operational risk disciplines, and office infrastructure management. He also assisted the China CEO to spearhead Morgan Stanley’s China strategy. Before that he was a Managing Director and the Head of Legal for Morgan Stanley Greater China, responsible for the geographical legal coverage for China and Taiwan across all business lines, and before that specialised in covering the Private Equity, Real Estate Investing, Infrastructure Fund and Principal Investing Groups across Asia Pacific.
Between 1997 and 2006, Elton was a practicing lawyer with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Hong Kong and London, and Herbert Smith Freehills in Sydney, specializing in private equity investments, structured finance, securisation and banking law.
Elton holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Economics from University of Sydney. He was admitted to practice law in Hong Kong, New South Wales of Australia, and England & Wales.
Cheng left CGN to join JIDA Capital in 2016. He is responsible for originating investment opportunities for CGN Capital Partners Infrastructure Fund III.
Cheng has acquired, developed, built and operated over 2,000MW of wind and solar power assets in China over the last 12 years across China. He has extensive experience in developing, constructing and operating renewable energy assets in China.
Cheng was previously the Assistant CEO of CGN Solar Group and CEO of CGN Solar Xinjiang.
Cheng holds a Master of Control Engineering from Xinjiang University and a Bachelor of Economic Information Management from Xinjiang Vocational University.
Colin joined JIDA Capital in 2014. He is responsible for evaluating and executing investment opportunities for CGN Capital Partners Infrastructure Fund III and manages the investments he led. Colin also assists in managing the business operations of CGN Capital Partners Infrastructure Fund III.
Colin has gained his investment experience from being involved in principal investments and managing private equity funds in the infrastructure sector. Specifically, Colin was a founding member of Equis Funds Group.
Colin was previously a Vice President of Equis Funds Group and Babcock & Brown.
Colin holds a Master of Business Administration from Hong Kong University, a Bachelor of Economics from University of Sydney and is a CFA charter-holder.
Benny XuInvestment Director
Benny left Ping An to join JIDA Capital in 2012. He is responsible for evaluating and executing investment opportunities for CGN Capital Partners Infrastructure Fund III and manages the investments he led.
Benny has gained his investment experience from being involved in principal investments in the infrastructure sector. Specifically, Benny was involved in the acquisition of over 900MW of wind and solar projects in China.
Benny holds a Master of Economics from Renmin University of China, a Bachelor of Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology. Benny is a CFA charter-holder and a GARP Certified FRM.
